MEET OUR 2012 RESIDENT PLAYWRIGHT
ZAYD DOHRN
A fresh, dynamic voice joins us in 2012 as the Chance’s Resident Playwright: Zayd Dohrn. Zayd earned his MFA from NYU and was a two-year Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Juilliard. He twice received the Lincoln Center’s Lecomte du Nouy Prize, the Theatre Masters Visionary Playwrights Award, the Sky Cooper Prize, and the Jean Kennedy Smith Award, as well as residencies and commissions from theaters such as Dallas Theatre Center and the Royal Court Theatre of London. Currently, Zayd is developing screenplays for Vox3 Films and American Film Company while teaching playwrighting and screenwriting at Northwestern University.

Chance Theater is enthusiastic to produce the unsettling dark comedy REBORNING on our Mainstage and readings of two new plays of Zayd’s as a part of the Chance’s On the Radar Series: THE ORIGIN STORY OF MISTER CLEAN and MAGIC FOREST FARM. Jocelyn A. Brown, Associate Artistic Director and producer of On the Radar, states, "We're very eager for this collaboration with Zayd Dohrn. Independent from his notable parents, Bernardine Dohrn and William Ayers who are former Weather Underground leaders, Zayd is making a significant impact in the theatrical world with a voice that is as disconcerting as it is empathetic. Zayd's plays have been described as riveting, fearless, and poignant, with themes that you often find yourself chewing upon days later. With much anticipation and pleasure, the Chance is looking forward to joining forces with Zayd Dohrn as our Resident Playwright this year."

ABOUT "ON THE RADAR" READING SERIES:
“On The Radar” Reading Series at the Chance is a collection of new works and works that are new to the Chance that are being considered for our Mainstage season. Each season, OTR provides two readings of new plays from our Resident Playwright. This series offers our audiences the opportunity to see works in progress of contemporary and inventive theatrical experiences and provides exploration for further production development. These productions have very short rehearsal periods, between 3-5 days, and the artists all generously volunteer their time. Running alongside the Mainstage season, performances are on Wednesday evenings and are usually one-night-only events. Tickets are complimentary for Sustaining Members as part of their benefits package.
