The Chance Theater at the
17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

Chance Staff and Company Members Attend the Star-Studded 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Ceremony in Hollywood

First, there was the momentous milestone of receiving the GLAAD Outstanding Los Angeles Theater Media Award nomination for our critically-acclaimed production of Porcelain. Then, the privilege of attending the star-studded 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, as televised on Sunday, April 16 on VH-1.

This singular accomplishment provided The Chance Theater with the opportunity to meet and celebrate with the foremost talents in the entertainment industry, such as Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron (honored with the Vanguard Awareness Award); renowned director Garry Marshall; and the cast of "Will & Grace" - Sean Hayes, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally.

The evening began with red carpet arrivals made by The Chance's Oanh Nguyen (Artistic Director/director of Porcelain ), Erika C. Miller (recent Back Stage West honoree for Cabaret ), and Kelly Todd (Managing Director/ director of Rodgers & Hammerstein's A Grand Night For Singing ), accompanied by John Robinson ( Last 5 Years Set Designer). Next was the special pre-show VIP reception where The Chance's Casey Long, who appeared in the nominated production of Porcelain , and Board Chairman John Karczynski joined the festivities. The evening culminated with the awards presentation.

One of the highlights of the evening was Charlize Theron's acceptance speech upon receiving GLAAD's Vanguard Award. Ms. Theron meaningfully expressed how important it is to "... teach children to have tolerance and acceptance. At the end of the day, we're all the same."

While the Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre award ultimately went to I Am My Own Wife , the significant nomination recognition was an honor for The Chance, and the prestigious ceremony was truly an unforgettable night of a thousand stars!!
